Nakashima Finally Wins First ATP Title
Home sweet home. Having lost his last two ATP finals on American soil, you almost felt that Brandon Nakashima’s first ATP title would come on home territory.
And fittingly, Nakashima was finally able to get the monkey off his back and clinched the ATP San Diego 250 a week ago in convincing fashion. He dropped one set all tournament and dominated countryman and fellow Californian Marcos Giron in the final, easily dispatching him 6-4 6-4.
Nakashima is in pole position to qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals which kicks off next month as well as achieving a seeding spot at next year’s Australian Open. With a packed schedule between now and then and a week-long rest, Nakashima may finally crack both goals.
Having elected to skip the Korean Open, the 21-year-old will make a long-awaited return to Tokyo, in a country he can very much call a second home.

Mochizuki Plotting Maiden Tour-level Win
Born in 2003, Shintaro Mochizuki is one of the finest prospects in Japanese men’s tennis. His vast teenage potential has won plenty of hearts back home.
Mochizuki won the 2019 Wimbledon juniors title, beating Carlos Gimeno Valero in straight sets, while he also steered Japan to win the Junior Davis Cup crown in Orlando that same year. He also achieved a career-high No. 1 ranking at that level.
His transition to tour-level tennis has been rather slow and inconsistent. Mochizuki has been limited to playing ITF and Challenger tournaments in the last couple of years and only made six main draw appearances on the ATP Tour where he lost in each of those matches.
Last week he was defeated in the Round of 16 of the Korea Open as a lucky loser by Mackenzie McDonald. Can he record an upset and his maiden tour-level win over the high-flying Nakashima?
Nakashima v Mochizuki Prediction and Tip
Nakashima has put together a career-best season and it looks like he isn’t stopping just yet. Expect him to outgun the youngster pretty routinely.
