Petra Kvitova v Bernard Pera
Petra Kvitova is back in her native Czech Republic to play some tennis and she will be happy about that because she generally plays really well indoors. She’s a natural fit for these types of conditions because she has a very precise and powerful serve and she loves to play attacking tennis.
She’s played really solidly at the US Open but lost to Jessica Pegula. Since then Pegula has been resting in her native country so she should be very motivated to play here. Having not played in a while means she will need to shake off some rust in this first match but Pera is player she should beat.
The American player has had a really strong season so far winning a couple of events this year but she needed to play the qualifiers to get into the main draw. She won two solid matches so she should be in a better rhythm than Kvitova to start this match.
Still, I think Kvitova is better and she will win.

Shuai Zhang v Ajla Tomljanovic
Another interesting match awaits us in Ostrava as Tomljanovic takes on Shuai Zhang. They’ve played plenty of times before with the score being 3-3. The most recent one happened in 2020 with all five of those coming much before this one.
Zhang won that one and she has played quite some good tennis lately but so has Tomljanovic. Traditionally, Zhang has been the better indoor player having a better career record in those conditions but Tomljanovic has all the tools to be a really strong player in these sorts of events.
Both have a decent serve but that of the Australian is a bit stronger. Zhang was in action last week in Tallinn but she didn’t play that well losing to Vekic. Tomljanovic played qualifiers this week and won two solid matches and she should be in a better rhythm.
Even with all of that, I think Zhang will still win.
Tip: Zhang to win: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Madison Keys v Elena Rybakina
This is a superb matchup for round one and it only shows how strong of an event this is. Both Keys and Rybakina are really strong players who have an excellent serve and superb ball-striking ability. Their H2H score is quite interesting as Keys leads 2-0.
Both of those matches happened this year as well with one being on clay and one being on hard courts. Keys won both which is interesting but Rybakina has since had a much better year. Even though, her consistency issues are well known but Keys is not much better.
What Rybakina has on her side is her far better indoor record. She is superb indoors while Keys is merely solid. When you put that into perspective it’s not hard to imagine why she is the favourite. I’m not sure if she’ll win but I do think it will be competitive so back the over.
