And while tougher challenges await him in this competition there is no doubting Tiafoe looks ready to meet them heads on. Including this one against the Spaniard and world number 80.

Zapata Miralles Shock for Daniel
Ranked 80th in the world, Zapata Miralles was 29/20 going into his opening round match against local and bookmakers’ favourite Taro Daniel. And he upset a few fans and the applecart with a straight-set win over the Japanese player.
Coming into the tournament on the back of an 8-13 win-loss record at the highest level this season, Zapata Miralles was on court for two hours and 15 minutes for his straight-set victory.
He won 7-5, 7-5 despite being broken twice in the match, even overcoming a set-point on Daniel’s serve in the first set and after getting a break behind in the second.
Against Tiafoe, the Spaniard will need to do a lot better than his season’s record shows but usurping a match favourite in the previous match would have helped him gain that confidence.
