Katerina Siniakova v Claire Liu Head to Head

No previous matches have been held between Siniakova and Liu before this.

Siniakova Goes Past Paquet

Chloe Paquet put up a good fight in her first round match but once Siniakova had scooped up the first set, there was no looking back. In the end, the Czech player benefitted from Paquet’s retirement because of injury with Siniakova leading 6-4, 4-0 at that stage.

The match had lasted an hour and 20 minutes by then.

The two players shared a break apiece in the first four games of the match before trading another couple in the seventh and eighth game. At 4-4, however, Siniakova managed another break to 15 before serving out for the set.

From there on till her opponent retired it was one-way traffic as Siniakova added a sixth successive win to her kitty.

Siniakova, who had won the Slovenia Open two weeks ago with wins over Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina, will hope to keep her good form running against Liu.

Liu Eases Past Konjuh

Liu will be heaving a sigh of relief after her first round win against Ana Konjuh given the way things have been for her in recent times in hard court competitions.

Sure, there was a quarterfinal appearance at the Tokyo Open which included wins over Elise Mertens and Alison Riske but other than that, Liu has struggled to get going. Even last week in Tallinn, she was a favourite going into her match against Ann Li but was bundled out in the first round in straight sets.

There were similar defeats in Toronto, Vancouver, US Open and Slovenia Open – all in first rounds.

What Liu would hope is for this win to trigger off some sort of victory rhythm that sees her go deep into this tournament as well.

Can she get past her 53rd-ranked opponent?
