Sofia Kenin v Coco Vandeweghe Head to Head
Kenin won their only meeting at the U.S. Open in 2019.

Kenin Woefully Out of Form
She had a dream run in 2020, winning her maiden Grand slam at the Australian Open and finishing runner-up at the French Open.
But a dip in form last year and an injury this year has seen her fall from a career high ranking of no. 4 to the current ranking of 309, all within a span of two years. This year she had begun the season as the world no. 12, but a string of poor performances led to her constant decline in the rankings.
Kenin began 2022 by reaching the last eight in Adelaide, but followed it up with five consecutive first round exits from Sydney to Indian Wells. She missed the entire clay and grass seasons due to injury, but returned for the North American hard court season.
Since her return, she has played in six tournaments, exiting five of them in the first round. The only exception was Cleveland where she won two matches, before falling to Bernarda Pera in the last eight stage.
The 23-year-old brings a 4-12 season record to San Diego and she will be desperately looking for a change of fortune.

Vandeweghe Is 20-15 This Year
Facing Kenin will be fellow American Coco Vandeweghe, who is 20-15 from all levels this year.
Ranked no. 138th in the world, Vandeweghe will be playing in her first tournament since making a first round exit at the U.S. Open.
While she has mostly played at the lower level tournaments, her best on the tour was a quarterfinal appearance in Charleston, where she had made it to the main draw as a lucky loser.
She delivered her best performance of the season at the WTA 125 in Concord, where she went on to lift the title by defeating the in-form Bernarda Pera in the final.
A former world no. 9 and two-time Grand slam semifinalist, Vandeweghe will back herself against a struggling Kenin in the opener.
Kenin v Vandeweghe Prediction and Tip
Vandeweghe has beaten some good, higher-ranked players this season, including Jessica Pegula in Charleston. She may not have gone deep in tournaments, but has won matches on a consistent basis.
In contrast, Kenin has had a forgettable year and has been able to win matches in just two tournaments.
Given Kenin’s form, Vandeweghe is a slight favourite to win this match.
Tip: Vandeweghe to win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
