Aslan Karatsev v Mikael Ymer
After advancing to round two due to a retirement, Aslan Karatsev finds himself with a great chance of moving on to the next round. He faces Mikael Ymer, a tricky player though certainly one that is beatable indoors. They actually played twice and both times Ymer won.
Both matches went to three sets as well so it’s a very competitive matchup that technically could go either way. Ymer hasn’t been playing that well recently and Karatsev is playing a bit better than usual. Due to that, I think the Russian has a solid chance to win this one.
Obviously, he’ll need to be better than usual because Ymer will force him to play longer rallies and that’s not something he tries to enjoy. He can also return rather well and Ymer doesn’t have a strong serve but a precise one. If his serve works out well then Karatsev should be favoured to win.
Tip: Karatsev to win: 5/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Matteo Berrettini v Roberto Carballes Baena
Matteo Berrettini returned home with the aspiration of adding a trophy on native soil to his name. He doesn’t get many chances to play in Italy so this Florence Open is big for him. He’s also the top-ranked Italian in the draw and should get plenty of support.
He’s heavily favoured against Spaniard Carballes Baena who did score a good win in round one albeit it’s a win over a player that won only two matches all-time indoors so his job was rather easy. Carballes Baena will frustrate Berrettini with his affinity to keep rallies long and will largely rely on forcing mistakes out of Berrettini.
It might work for a while but I do think that Berrettini has more than enough to take apart the game of Carballes Baena. A lot will depend on the serve and I think he won’t drop serve if he plays really well. Their only previous match was indoors in 2019 and Berrettini won 6-1 6-2 and something similar is expected as well.
Tip: Berrettini to win AND Under 20.5 games: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Maxime Cressy v J.J. Wolf
A couple of American will go head to head as Cressy faces Wolf. They are quite similar players in profile although their styles vary quite a bit. Both rely on their powerful serve but Cressy has the better one. He also likes to keep rallies short and volleys frequently which is lovely to see as we don’t see it much in the past few years.
Wolf is a baseliner who also relies heavily on his serve but the forehand is his speciality. He’s also very streaky so if his level is not good then he won’t find a way to win the match. Cressy was able to mix it up a few times this year but he’s been in poor form for a while now.
They played once so far and Cressy was able to win that match a couple of years ago. The value play is on Wolf here because the odd is great and could certainly win. Cressy has had mixed results lately and he’s not that great indoors but playing Wolf simply offers more value right now.
Tip: Wolf to win: 7/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
