Cori Gauff v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

She might have been playing a 294th-ranked player in Robin Montgomery but Gauff had been on nearly a six-week break coming into her opening round encounter.
Which is why, a 6-3, 6-3 victory over the fellow American would have pleased Gauff as she shrugged off any signs of rustiness there might have been on show.
In a match lasting an hour and a half, Gauff was broken once – it came in the fifth game of the opening set – but from that point on it was all one-way traffic. The world number eight broke right back and then again in the eighth game to clinch the set.
And two more breaks of serves followed soon after that in the second set for Gauff as she sent her qualifier opponent packing.
A quarterfinalist at the US Open before this, Gauff will now hope to get past a former US Open champion to make it to the last eight here.

Andreescu Gets Past Samsonova in Opener
After making it to the third round at the US Open, Andreescu was playing her first match when she took to court for her opener here against Luidmilla Samsonova.
And while Andreescu was a second favourite coming into the encounter according to the bookmakers – some offering 8/5 for her win – she looked like she was there for a scrap.
The Canadian, former world number four needed a good two hours and 38 minutes but she came through 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-2 to seal her second round berth.
A gritty first set saw a total of two break-points, one for each, but both of them were saved and the set was pushed into a tie-breaker which Andreescu won easily.
She was broken four times in a second set that saw the two players retain their service just three times but then instilled a lot of damage in the third on to Samsonova to clinch the decider.
Can Andreescu now up the ante against a rather challenging second round opponent?
