Sebastian Korda v Andy Murray Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will the first match between the 22-year old American, and Murray, who is now 35.

Korda Upsetting Spanish Hopes

So far, Korda appears to be on a one man mission to stop a Spaniard winning on home soil.

He began his campaign in Gijon by defeating the world number 57, Jaume Munar, easily in straight sets.

His second round opponent was a different proposition altogether, the world number 22 seed, and number three seed, Roberto Batuista-Agut.

The first set was dominated by serve and appeared to be heading for a tie break, until the Spaniard created and converted the only break point to claim the advantage.

When the American went a break down in the second set, it seemed like the home crowd would have a victory to celebrate. But Korda responded with a  break of his own immediately, and then broke once more, allowing him to close out the set and level the match.

When Batuista-Agut was broken in the first game of the third set it proved to be the deciding moment of the match. Although more break points were created by both men, none were taken, and Korda, in the end, was the one with something to cheer.

Murray Toughs It Out

Murray who was a wildcard into this event, enjoyed an ultimately comfortable win over the number six seed Alejandro Davidson-Fokina in the first round.

But there was nothing remotely easy about his second round match with Pedro Cachin of Argentina, the world number 61.

In fact, Cachin, who started the match by breaking the Scot’s serve, had much the better of the first set and claimed it for the loss of just two games.

The second set went with serve until, with a  tie-break looming, Murray found the inspiration to break Cachin and level the match.

The third set fluctuated one way and then another and the pair swapped breaks twice.

This time it did go to a tie-break, which Murray largely dominated, Cachin did save two match points, but could not prevent the former world number one converting the third.

Korda v Murray Prediction and Tip

Korda is likely to be the fitter of the two and the one better able to recover after his second round exertions. He will probably win, but Marray is unlikely to make it easy for him.
