The world number six Pegula barely faced any difficulties as she carved out an easy win over Coco Vandeweghe in her second round encounter.
Following a first round bye, Pegula crushed her fellow American 6-3, 6-1 in just 70 minutes to make it to her fourth quarterfinal in a row. She had earlier reached the last eight stages at the Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open and US Open as well, going a step further in Toronto.
Here, in the second round, Pegula did not start off well as she dropped her serve in the very first game but from there on, it was a case of one-way traffic.
That’s because Pegula faced just one more break-point from that point on in the entire encounter and broke her opponent a total of five times to claim her last eight berth.
Can she now get past another American, albeit one who is ranked 18th in the world.

Keys Brushes Kasatkina Aside
Keys wasn’t quite the favourite coming into her second round encounter against Daria Kasatkina, a player ranked seven places ahead of her.
And yet, she came through in fine fashion, winning 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 28 minutes to make it through to the last eight.
Having broken a three-match losing streak with a win victory over Ellen Perez in the first round, Keys fell 0-4 down in the first set but came back to win seven games in a row.
This included Keys pouching the first set and then very soon going 3-1 up with a break of serve. The American dropped her serve once more but broke soon after that before serving it out to 15 and making the last eight.
The opposition now gets tougher as Keys aims to make it through to another semifinal following her Cincinnati appearance.
Pegula v Keys Prediction and Tip
Can Pegula live up to her 1/2 odds for this win? While on paper that seems the obvious outcome, Keys isn’t one to be taken for granted and we could see a bit of a tussle here. Three-setter in the offing.
