Rublev Wins 45th Match in 2022
After playing out a draining three-setter against Ilya Ivashka in the second round on Thursday, Andrey Rublev had a much easier quarterfinal, needing just an hour and 27 minutes to dispatch fifth seed Tommy Paul.
The World no. 9 broke early to lead 3-0. Paul came back to win the next three and send the set back o serve. He also saved a set point on his serve at 4-5 (30-40), but couldn’t prevent the Russian from breaking a second time to take a one-set-to-love lead. In the second set, the American didn’t hold a single break point, while Rublev converted one of the two that he held to clinch a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Rublev had needed two hours and 29 minutes in the first round to beat Ivashka 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
The 24-year-old is now a win away from reaching a fourth final this season. He had won all three of his previous finals in Marseille, Dubai and Belgrade.
The win over Paul was his 45th of the season. Can the Russian keep charging towards his 12th title?

Thiem Reaches Second SF of the Season
Dominic Thiem marched into his second semifinal of the season with a straight sets win over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo on Friday.
The former no. 3 seems to be getting better with every match. On Friday, he broke early in both the sets, but the Argentine broke back immediately. However, Thiem clinched the opening set by getting a second break late in the set and he took the second by winning the last four games in a row.
Thiem had begun his campaign with a 6-2, 6-0 thrashing of Joao Sousa in the opening round and then scored a come-from-behind win over Marcos Giron in the round of 16. He had lost the first set 3-6, but he rebounded to beat the American 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
This is the second time this year that Thiem has won three tour-level matches in a row. He had earlier reached the final four on clay in Gstaad, before going down to Mateo Berrettini.
The 29-year-old Austrian, who is ranked no. 165th in the world, is climbing up the rankings and will break into the top 100 if he wins his 18th career title this weekend. a win on Saturday will put him into a first final since his runner-up finish at the ATP Finals in 2020.
Rublev v Thiem Prediction and Tip
Going by recent form, Rublev is the favourite to win this contest. He also holds a 3-2 head-to-head lead and has won the last three matches between the two. Thiem is looking good in this tournament and will put up a fight, but the Russian should emerge victorious.
