Danielle Collins v Donna Vekic Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players with Collins winning a three-setter in the 2018 Miami Open.

Collins Overcomes Determined Badosa

After a start-stop sort of a season for Collins, the American has finally managed to find herself a foothold in back to back competitions, reaching the semifinal here following a fourth round appearance at the US Open.

And she did that with her third successive straight-set win, this time sending the world number four Paula Badosa out 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Collins was on court for nearly two hours and in a match filled with breaks of serves, needed six of them to eke out a narrow win over her Spanish opponent.

The first set saw eight breaks of serves which took the two to a tie-breaker which saw Collins never fall behind before winning it. In the second, the players traded breaks in the third and fourth games, before another one in the seventh proved to be the decisive one for Collins.

Can she now make it to another final, having done that at the Australian Open earlier this year?

Vekic Adds Sabalenka Scalp to Her List

A struggle all season looks to be bearing fruits for Vekic, who looks to be showing the kind of form that had seen her rise to number 19 in the world at one stage.

Starting out as a qualifier in this tournament, Vekic had already sent Maria Sakkari and Karolina Pliskova packing from the competition. Despite that, she was 6/4 odds to surprise Aryna Sabalenka in her quarterfinal and that’s exactly what she did.

In an encounter lasting over two and a half hours, Vekic overcame Sabalenka 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 after twice going a break up in the second set.

After Sabalenka had levelled things out by winning that set, most experts agreed the momentum was squarely with the Belarusian but Vekic broke her opponent twice to scoop up the match.

Can she now make it to her first final since October last year?

Collins v Vekic Prediction and Tip

Collins is an obvious favourite here but Vekic’s strong form makes us wonder if we could actually see a third set here. That’s a good possibility – a three-setter or even for Collins to win it in three.
