Ludmilla Samsonova v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head
There have been two previous matches between these two players and Samsonova has won them both. This includes a first round win at Wimbledon and a Washington Open final victory earlier this year.

She is ranked 22nd in the world, and that’s Samsonova’s career-best ranking. And despite an early exit from the San Diego Open, Samsonova has managed to hold on to that rank.
Coming up against Canada’s Bianca Andreescu, Samsonova failed to shrug off her opponent and went down in three sets in that first round.
She had earlier won the title in Tokyo, Cleveland and Washington while reaching the fourth round at the US Open to go through a patch of results which saw her win 18 of the 19 matches Samsonova had played.
Can she now get past an experienced player who, at 37, seems to have gotten herself a second wind to her career?

Kanepi Falls at San Diego Qualifying Hurdle
Kanepi has shown remarkable solidity this year, especially for a 37-year-old who otherwise would be winding down her career. Instead, Kanepi has moved into the top 30 of the WTA Rankings thanks to some of the results that have gone her way this year.
The latest of those came at the Washington Open where Kanepi had made the final – and interestingly, lost to Samsonova – and earned herself a chunk of ranking points.
The Estonian’s form since that result, however, has seen a fall.
A win over Naomi Osaka in Toronto has helped but she has lost six of the 11 matches she has played since getting to the Washington Open title-decider.
