It has been a tough year for the 22-year-old Ann Li, who brings an 11-16 record into the tournament.
The American’s current form has been concerning as well as she has won just one match in the last four tournaments. That win came against Claire Liu in the opening round of the Tallinn Open. Li lost in the second round to Kaia Kanepi and then made back-to-back first round exits from the Jasmin Open and the Transylvania Open.
Li, who shared the Grampians Trophy last year and won her maiden title in Tenerife, has reached just one semifinal this season and that was in the season opener at the Melbourne Summer Set 2.
Since then she has won consecutive matches just one more time and that was in Miami.

Marino Qualifies for Main Draw
World no. 80 Rebecca Marino made it to the main draw with back-to-back three-set wins over the weekend.
The Canadian’s first victory came over USA’s Sachia Vickery on Saturday, when she came back from a set down to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
In the second qualifying round on Sunday, Marino knocked out another American, Elvina Kalieva, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
Marino, who mostly featured in lower level tournaments in the earlier half of the season, has played some great tennis ever since the start of the North American swing. The 31-year-old made it to the last eight in Washington and Granby and also reached the third round of the U.S. Open for the first time. She also reached a quarterfinal in Chennai.
Overall she is 45-22 across levels and 34-14 on hard courts. How far can she go in Guadalajara?
Li v Marino Prediction and Tip
With Li struggling throughout the season and Marino in good touch over the last couple of months, this match could go in qualifier’s favour. Expect a close one with Marino edging into the second round.
