Donna Vekic v Laura Pigossi Head to Head

Vekic Redeems Herself
For most of 2022, Donna Vekic of Croatia had visibly struggled with her form as she failed to find wins. Having undergone surgery a while ago meant it would take some time before she could return to her former self.
And that is precisely what happened in San Diego last week where, as a qualifier, she reached the final before losing to Iga Swiatek in three sets. In the same tournament, Donna also stunned the likes of Maria Sakkari, Karolina Pliskova, Aryna Sabalenka, and Danielle Collins.
Before that, Vekic’s key moments were quarterfinal stints in Birmingham and Tallinn. She is now 25-19 and ready to keep marching on.
In all fairness, a run like this isn’t surprising from the current World No. 47. In the past, the 26-year-old has bagged nine WTA finals while beating several top 20 players along the way on the WTA Tour. Needless to say, she is a formidable opponent on her best day.

Pigossi, Starting as the Lucky Loser
Brazil’s Laura Pigossi, who has now dropped to the #108 spot in the singles ranking, started as a qualifier in Guadalajara but lost to Asia Muhammad in straight sets. However, the lucky loser rule earned her a ticket to the main draw.
Her prospects of going further are undoubtedly slim, considering the year she has had so far. Laura arrived in Mexico with a record of 22-25 and on the toes of a five-match losing streak.
In her last couple of tournaments – Parma and Monastir – Pigossi was beaten by the likes of Ana Bogdan and Alize Cornet in straight sets. That said, she is capable of surprises – as evident from her runner-up feat in Bogota and the quarterfinal result in WTA Warsaw.
Vekic v Pigossi Prediction and Tip
Barring any fatigue or fitness issues, Vekic should win this one comfortably. Pigossi isn’t in the best of form and shouldn’t prove too difficult of a player to beat.
Tip: Vekic to win 2-0: 4/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
