Eugenie Bouchard v Kayla Day Head to Head
Bouchard leads 1-0; they last met in the 2019 WTA Newport Beach, where the Canadian won in straight sets.

Bouchard Continuing her Comeback
Former world number five Eugenie Bouchard is looking to close the season on a high note and lay the groundwork for the next year.
Following her surgery last year and the long road to recovery, the 28-year-old Canadian returned to the tour only in August – after a hiatus of over 15 months.
Eugenie’s comeback tournament was the Vancouver Challenger where she lost to Arianne Hartono in straight sets. Most of her tournaments have gone by along those lines, except for the Chennai Open where she was a quarter-finalist.
Most recently, Bouchard played in the Transylvania Open where she retired against Anhelina Kalinina, citing fitness concerns.
Of course, her health is still a concern, and Kay may make things problematic for her.

Kay, Eager to Leave her Mark
23-year-old Kayla Day has had quite a season in 2022; she is now 37-18, bubbling with a fair bit of momentum and experience.
That said, she is still #194 – largely due to her predominantly participation on the ITF circuit. She has two titles and one runner-up silverware to her name this year, the most recent coming in Redding in October.
Her WTA form has been rather scarce, with WTA San Jose and US Open being her two biggies. In the former, she cleared the qualifiers but lost to Caroline Dolehide; in the latter, Kay couldn’t quite make it past the prelims.
Here in Guadalajara, she is through to the main round after beating Julia Grabher and Coco Vandeweghe in three sets.
Bouchard v Kay Prediction and Tip
This match can go either way. Bouchard’s shaky form means Kay can deliver a big win and reach round two. At the same time, Eugenie’s rich pedigree and experience keep her in solid contention.
Expect an intriguing affair.
