Sebastian Baez v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both times earlier this year and Sonego won in straight sets easily both times, first on the nard courts of Sydney, and then on the clay of Buenos Aires.

Baez’s Form Has Dipped Away from Clay

Baez has had a good year, reaching three finals and winning two of them, in Chile in February, and in Sweden in July.

He also made his Grand Slam debut in Australia, and went on to appear in all the subsequent majors, although without any notable success.

Like most South Americans he is happier on clay, and his results have dropped off once moving away from it.

As a consequence, he has not won a match since Bastad on the main tour.

That run continued last week in Gijon where he went out in the first round to Constant Lestienne of France when he was forced to retire with an injury midway through the second set, having dropped the first.

Moselle Winner Sonego

Sonego has enjoyed one of the most successful seasons of his career, winning the doubles titles in Kitzbuhel with partner Pedro Martinez, but going on to do even better in the singles at the Moselle Open.

Despite being unseeded, he came through the field, defeating the likes of Sebastian Korda, and Hubert Hurkasz along the way, before he beat Alexander Bublik in the final.

Not only was that his third senior tournament win, but it now means he has won on all surfaces.

His previous two titles had been won on gras and clay.

Since then, he reached the second round in Sofia, but suffered first round disappointment in Florence last week, beaten in straight sets by the Spaniard, Bernabe Miralles Zapeta.

Baez v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Although Baez is the higher ranked and seeded player,  their previous two meetings this year were both won easily by Sonego, and he will be confident of keeping that run going.

Tip: Sonego to win: 5/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
