Collins Has No Trouble against Dolehide
Following a semifinal appearance at the San Diego Open last week, Collins came into her opener at this tournament against Caroline Dolehide as a strong favourite. And other than the first game of the encounter, she faced no trouble whatsoever in their hour and 11 minutes long encounter.
Collins carved out a 6-4, 6-1 win over Dolehide as she saved three of the four break-points she faced while breaking her opponent twice in each of the two sets.
With 81% of her first serve points won, Collins overcame the early break with one back in the second game itself and took advantage of her opponent’s nerves as she served to stay in the first set at 4-5.
In the second, Collins raced away to 5-0 lead and while she missed out four match-points on her opponent’s serve and then a further two more on her own, she clinched the win off the seventh.

Frech Stuns Putintseva
Yulia Putintseva was 3/5 to win her opener against Frech but it was her Polish opponent who came away an easy winner in the end.
Taking advantage of Putintseva’s poor serving, Frech carved out a 6-3, 6-4 victory in a match lasting an hour and 17 minutes. With Putintseva winning just 57% of her first serves and 44% of the second, it allowed Frech to break her three times in the encounter.
Frech had come into the match on the back of just 10 main draw wins in the entire WTA season and just one since the start of the US Open. Which is why it came as no surprise she was 13/10 odds coming into the encounter.
A second successive win, and that against a player of the consistency of Collins, however, seems to be a distant dream.

Collins should have no trouble here getting past Frech and we expect a straight-set win for the American.
