Pegula Starts with a Bye
Jessica Pegula, currently ranked World No. 5, is on cloud nine at the moment. She has had a wonderful season with a record of 37-18, a career-best ranking, and over $3 million in prize money.
Her exploits include three Grand Slam quarterfinals, two WTA 1000 semifinals, and a runner-up trophy from the Madrid Open. Even on the doubles circuit, Jessica has been absolutely brilliant with five titles and one runner-up silverware from the French Open.
Pegula has been one of the most consistent performers in 2022 and is all set to compete in the WTA Finals later this month.
She arrived in Guadalajara on the heels of a semifinal showing in San Diego, where she fell to Iga Swiatek. Before that, the 28-year-old reached the late rounds in New York, Cincinnati, and Toronto.

Rybakina Stuns Pliskova
Elena Rybakina is having quite a season herself; she is now 39-19 following her straight-set win over Karolina Pliskova in round one here.
She is the current World No. 24 – a ranking that could have been much higher had the points from her Wimbledon title been considered.
The 23-year-old Kazakh is a formidable adversary, evident from her ability to play smart strokes. In addition to the trophy from SW19, Rybakina was the runner-up in Adelaide and Slovenia Open.
Her last tournament was in Ostrava, where she was a semifinalist – after beating the likes of Madison Keys, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and Petra Kvitova en route.
At the same time, Elena has been stunned by many lower-ranked players like Jaqueline Cristian, Anhelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko, and Clara Burel this year.
Pegula v Rybakina Prediction and Tip
Both players are in superb form, but in terms of consistency, Pegula has had a superior season. She has the advantage heading into this fixture, but given how Rybakina has managed to beat several top 20 players in her short career so far, an upset is certainly on the cards.
Expect a cracking affair.
