Daniel Elahi Galan took an hour and 23 minutes to beat fellow clay-court expert in Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-4 6-4 to reach the second round of the Tennis Napoli Cup.
Galan overcame a wobbly start in which he was broken in the first game of the match. But he quickly recovered and broke to love in the fourth game to level. He won 13 from 18 points behind his first serve and took full advantage of Zapata Miralles getting tighter on serve towards the end when he secured a break to clinch the set.
The second set was equally as tight with both players exchanging breaks. And in almost a mirror-like scenario, Zapata Miralles dropped serve in the tenth game and it proved costly.
With the win, the Colombian who has enjoyed a fine run this autumn has snapped his three-match losing streak, dating back to his quarterfinal run in San Diego.

Borges Shocks Ramos Vinolas
Nuno Borges secured his first top-50 win of the season with a 7-5 7-6 win over Albert Ramos Vinolas. The Spaniard was visibly frustrated with the playing surface in Napoli. The state of the court was the major reason, with bad bounces often affecting play and flow.
That, however, did not hinder Borges in the slightest to pull off the upset – his third main-draw win at tour-level in as many weeks. Borges overcame a slow start and won the baseline battle against the topspin forehand of Ramos Vinolas, often using his effective first serve to earn cheap points.
He broke the Spaniard twice in a tight first set, and won the second-set tiebreak by the slightest of margins. The Portuguese who celebrated a place inside the top 100 not so long ago, will now vie to reach his first ATP quarterfinal of the season.
