Pedro Cachin scored his finest win yet when he took down Adrian Mannarino in his first-round match. Mannarino, who is no slouch on hard courts, was surprisingly outclassed by Argentina’s high flier who is celebrating a career-high ranking of No. 57 this week.
There is still a possibility he will crack the top 40 by the end of the week, but that would mean he will need to win a maiden ATP title in Naples.
Cachin routed Mannarino in the opening set 6-1, and although he was pegged back in the second, he showed nerves steel in the decider as he broke the Frenchman at the tail end of the match.
Overall, his serve was simply impregnable. He hammered eight aces – almost twice as Mannarino’s and was only broken once in the match.

Daniel Downs Martinez
Taro Daniel’s strong hard-court prowess was in full flight against Spain’s Pedro Martinez. Daniel, who owns over 100 match wins on the surface, needed an hour and 39 minutes to win 6-3 6-3 against the clay-court specialist at the Tennis Napoli Cup.
He was broken early on but came roaring as his weight of shot overwhelmed Martinez. He restored parity at 2-2 in the first set and then went ahead with another break of serve for 4-2. With momentum firmly on his side, he would not relinquish his lead.
In the second set, the Japanese World No. 95 dropped only three points behind his first serve and secured a double break that all but confirmed his place in the round of 16.
The 29-year-old has not won back-to-back matches on the ATP Tour since mid-July and will have a seemingly tough task against a fast-improving Cachin.

Cachin is in the form of his life right now and despite Daniel coming in as the hard-court master, we reckon the Argentine might just shade it.
