Veronika Kudermetova v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

Kudermetova Upsets Vekic
Number eight seed Veronika Kudermetova fired warning shots in Guadalajara by beating the in-form Croat Donna Vekic 6-4, 7-5.
It is certainly not surprising when we consider the stellar season that she has enjoyed in 2022. Her record now stands at an impressive 38-19 and is currently ranked World No. 12 – a career-best spot yet.
Kudermetova has also been quite consistent with three singles runner-up feats (Melbourne, Dubai, and Istanbul) and just as many on the doubles circuit. In the latter, however, she did win the Dubai Championships and the Italian Open.
The 25-year-old Russian also reached the semifinal in her last two tournaments – WTA Tokyo and Monastir – before arriving in Mexico.
Veronika has been absolutely fearless in taking on the big guns; with a litany of impressive wins already added to her resume, Ostapenko should not prove to be too demanding.

Ostapenko takes the Long Way
Jelena Ostapenko started her campaign from round one, surpassing Lauren Davis and Eugenie Bouchard.
The Davis match was simple as the 25-year-old won the match 6-1, 6-3; with Bouchard, she struggled a bit and had to fight for three sets before winning 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
Now ranking World No. 23, Jelena’s season has been decent so far. Her record is 31-18, and her best results include the title from Dubai and runner-up trophies from Eastbourne and Seoul.
In her last two tournaments (Tallinn and Ostrava), however, she was beaten in the first round itself by Kaia Kanepi and Aliaksandra Sasnovich. These early exits are not uncommon, as Ostapenko has also fallen to other players like Shelby Rogers, Alize Cornet, Alison Riske-Amritraj, and Dayana Yastremska.
Ostapenko v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip
This has all the makings of being a brilliant encounter. Both players are coming on the heels of a superb year but Kudermetova has been particularly impressive and more consistent. She is the odds-on favourite for us but Ostapenko will not go down without a fight. We may be looking at a long match.
