Caroline Garcia v Sloane Stephens Head to Head
Garcia leads 4-1. Stephens’ only win came in 2014. Since then they have met thrice and Garcia has dominated the rivalry. Her most recent win came in Cincy last year. That was the first three-set affair between the two.

Garcia Survives Scare
After losing three matches on the trot, Caroline Garcia ensured she didn’t slide further as she edged out Rebecca Marino in the second round of the Guadalajara Open. There was more good news to follow for the sixth seed as she also qualified for the season-ending WTA Finals.
The win over Marino was by no means easy for the world no. 10, who survived a real scare against the Canadian before clinching victory in the dramatic three-setter.
The world no. 80 took the first set after dominating the tiebreak. But Garcia returned in the second set, getting the solitary break in the sixth game. Garcia also broke early in the third set, but Marino broke back in the eighth game. The match eventually needed a deciding set tiebreak, which was neck-and-neck as well until Garcia ran away with it by winning the last three points in a row.
The 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win came in two hours and 31 minutes, ending the three-match losing streak for Garcia, which began with a defeat to Ons Jabeur in her first ever Grand Slam semifinal at the U.S. Open.
Garcia was knocked out in her opening matches in the next two Tokyo and San Diego tournaments.
Garcia, who won three titles in Bad Homburg, Warsaw and Cincinnati this year, improved to 41-18 in 2022.
Since the start of the Bad Homberg Open in June, she has been in phenomenal form, which is reflected in her 32-7 record.

Stephens Takes Down the 10th Seed
World no. 50 Sloane Stephens recorded a second straight sets win in the tournament on Wednesday to take down the 10th seed Belinda Bencic and ease into the third round.
The 29-year-old, who won the WTA 250 in Guadalajara at the start of the season, seems to be in love with the city as she also looked comfortable in the first two wins of the WTA 1000 event.
Both the sets in her second-round win had a similar pattern: Stephens breaking in the first game, Bencic getting the break back immediately, and Stephens breaking serve again in the seventh game.
In all, the American won 76% of points on her first serve and converted 4 of 7 break points while saving 3 of 5 that she faced.
Stephens had trounced Linda Fruhvirtova 6-0, 6-2 in the first round.
This is the first time that Stephens has won two consecutive matches since reaching the last eight in Roland Garros earlier this year. In fact it is only the third tournament this year when the former no. 3 has won two matches in a row. Can she take down another seed on Thursday?
Garcia v Stephens Prediction and Tip
Garcia is back to winning ways. She has been in incredible touch over the last five months and will be hungry for more. Expect her to advance to another quarterfinal.
