Hubert Hurkacz is heavily favoured in this matchup against Thiem and while the Austrian is a good player there are several factors. Hurkacz has had a very good season overall and has played well in the past few weeks. He leads Thiem 3-0 in H2H matches and one of those happened recently in Metz.
He’s also a really strong indoor player whos serve is very tough to handle for most players. He also had one more day of rest which is key because Thiem has played for consecutive weeks now and that fatigue will show up eventually, especially after another 3-setter.
Another huge reason why Hurkacz is heavily favoured is the fight for the ATP Finals. He needs points and he needs deep runs like this so a chance to get to the semi-final should motivate him more so than Thiem who doesn’t have the same thing at stake.

Thiem Battling
This season has been anything but easy for Dominic Thiem but the Austrian has not given up yet. Battling the injury and poor form in the first year left him visibly shaken but he has been able to find some form in recent weeks. Crucial for that was playing some challenger events opting not to travel to the US and take part in that stretch.
Many were surprised by that decision but it paid dividends as he is starting to play some very solid tennis. It’s not on the level of Hurkacu but he’s becoming competitive again which is much needed for him to build up confidence for next year.
He wants to finish off the year in a strong fashion in order to have an easier time getting into events next year. He’s still not in the top 100 and getting there before the season finishes will require of him to play some more challengers but he will certainly do so.

So I do think this match will go very similarly to their Metz clash. Both played a solid match but Hurkacz was simply better and he will be once again.
