World No. 73 Anna Kalinskaya continues to make her mark in Guadalajara – this time by beating her compatriot, Russian No. 1 Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
This performance is in line with her preceding victories in the tournament, which came against the likes of Barbora Krejcikova and Elise Mertens. With these, her record is now 27-19. It is also a bit surprising on the whole, given that she lost in the San Diego qualifiers most recently.
Her season’s other highlights have come in the doubles department where, with Caty McNally, she won the St. Petersburg Trophy and later was the finalist in the Citi Open.
On the singles circuit, the best she has done previously is reaching the third round (as a qualifier) in Miami and Indian Wells, the quarterfinals in Washington DC, and the semis in Guadalajara – but in the WTA 250 edition. However, the one this week takes the cake by far.

Bouzkova Upsets Samsonova
Marie Bouzkova, current World No. 38, is also having quite a season herself.
She is already at a career-best ranking, and by the looks of it, she is set to move up further after the week ends. The 24-year-old Czech has already left quite an impression in Guadalajara by beating Tereza Martincova and Camila Osorio without dropping a set.
In the third round, she met Liudmila Samsonova and triumphed with 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 – delivering a remarkable turnaround.
With these, her record is now 40-12. Bouzkova will compete in her fifth quarterfinal of the season, including Wimbledon. In two of those, she moved on to reach the final (Guadalajara 250 and Prague Open).
Bouzkova v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip
Bouzkova looks sharp to reach the semis, especially considering the season she has had. With several impressive wins and consistency, her chances cannot be ignored.
That said, Kalinskaya has proven herself to be the dark horse and looks primed to keep the party going. With three big wins, Bouzkova surely should not be too though of a nut to crack for her.
