Jurij Rodionov Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, and that was in this event two years ago, Rodionov winning in straight sets.

Rodionov Has Won Two Challenger Titles in 2022

Rodionov, who has been given a wildcard this time, was the long time number two to Dominic Thiem, until the arrival of Filip Misolic to upset the order at the top of Austrian men’s tennis.

However, he has enjoyed a good season in his own right, winning two Challenger titles in Switzerland, and on home soil in Matthuasen. That helped him reach a career high singles ranking.

This, though, will be his first main draw appearance since reaching the second round in Kitzbuhel.

Last week he was beaten in the semi-final of a Challenger tournament in France.

Tokyo Finalist Shapovalov

This has not been Shapovalov’s best year in tour, and he needs a few good results to ensure he remains a top 20 player by the end of the year.

However, there have been signs that he may be finding some of his old form at last by reaching the final in Tokyo, before losing in three sets to the American Taylor Fritz.

That was his fifth senior final in all, but he has only won one, and that was back in Stockholm three years ago.

His return to Sweden last week did not go so well. Entering the tournament in the second round after being given a first round bye, he  lost in the quarter-finals to Alex de Minaur in straights sets.

Rodionov v Shapovalov Prediction and Tip

Shapovalov should be aware of what happened to him two years ago against the same opponent, and determined not to allow a repeat.
