Daniil Medvedev v Dominic Thiem
A spectacular matchup awaits us in Vienna as native player Thiem takes on Medvedev. This is one that promises to be extremely good due to how both players are playing as well as the crowd being very into tennis and very loud which will make things interesting due to Daniil’s affinity to provoke crowds.
They played five times so far with Thiem leading 3-2 but their last clash was in 2020 and much changed since then. Medvedev is a far better player with Thiem only recently getting back to being good. In all honesty, this is a match that Medvedev should win as Thiem will find it very hard to find holes in his game.
Even before becoming really good, Medvedev had ways to frustrate Theim and I do expect the Russian to embrace this challenge. The long and emotional match against Paul will leave Thiem further drained and I think the Russian takes this in two.
Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Borna Coric v Stefanos Tsitsipas
These two players recently squared off in the Cincinnati Masters final and Coric won that match easily in two sets. It was the best match the Croatian played in two years easily and Tsitsipas was very unlucky for it to come in the final against him.
Now he has a chance to avenge that loss and while it will be really tough he is the better indoor player. Both have a powerful serve and Coric won that match in Cincinnati largely because Tsitsipas was unable to create any kind of pressure on the serve.
There is a danger that could happen again as his backhand is quite vulnerable in these conditions but I do think Tsitsipas will take it. Coric has been up and down since that match and the somewhat slower court should help the Greek. The over is the better odd so I’ll take that over the win by the Greek.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Brandon Nakashima v Stan Wawrinka
Brandon Nakashima barely pulled through in his round one matchup almost losing it. Wawrinka was superb in an inspiring win over Casper Ruud who did not play his best. The American is favoured here but only slightly and I understand it.
He’s the better player and generally should win this matchup but in this spot, on home soil, Wawrinka looks like the better option. He is serving really well and both the forehand and backhand are doing wonders. It’s not a fluke either as he played like this for the majority of the indoor season.
He even pushed Daniil Medvedev in Metz clearly showing that he can play against various types of players with success. I do think the odd makes this a very good value to try and I think Wawrinka will get this done, perhaps even in two sets.
Tip: Wawrinka to win match: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
