Grigor Dimitrov v Botic van de Zandschulp Head to Head

They are 1-1 from their previous meetings and both happened this year with Dimitrov winning in Melbourne and Van de Zandschulp winning in Queen’s.

Dimitrov Hits Form in Vienna

He was consistent at the start of the year reaching at least the quarterfinals every now and then. But just when the tour moved away from clay and into grass and then to the hard courts of North America, he slowly went out of form.

Grigor Dimitrov entered the Vienna Open last week with a 3-7 record in his last 10 matches and things weren’t looking good for the 31-year-old. But he got off to a great start, beating Thiago Monteiro in straight sets and then knocked out the third seed Andrey Rublev to win consecutive matches for the first time since the French Open.

He then ousted Marcos Giron in three sets to book a place in a third semifinal of the season, but he couldn’t reach a first final since Rotterdam in 2018 as he was beaten by eventual champion Daniil Medvedev. He would be disappointed not to have reached the title clash but that performance was a clear indication of his return to form.

Now the former no. 3 heads to his 10th Paris Masters. His previous best was a semifinal finish in 2019. He has gone out of the third round seven times, including last year, and once he lost in the second round. So Dimitrov has never been beaten in the opening round in Paris ad he will look to keep that record intact in the first round this year.

Van de Zandschulp Not at His Best

While Dimitrov regained form in the last tournament, Botic van de Zandschulp is still looking to get back his touch after going 3-4 from the last four tournaments.

The Dutchman’s best performance this season came on clay, when he reached the final in Munich, but unfortunately he had to retire early in the first set in the final thus handing Holger rune his first title.

Besides his maiden final, he also reached the semifinals in Queen’s and Winston-Salem in two of his other significant results.

Van de Zandschulp, who made his ATP 1000 debut in Indian Wells last year, played for the first time in the other Masters 1000 tournaments this season. While his run to the third round in Indian Wells was his best, he reached the second round in four of the other six ATP 1000 events this year.

The 27-year-old brings an overall season record of 38-27 to Paris. Can he make an impressive debut?

Dimitrov v Van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip

On current form, Dimitrov is the favourite. The eight-time tour level champion also has plenty of experience and an excellent first round record in Paris. Expect him to advance to the next round.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in straight sets: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
