The pair have played each other before, and that was in Sofia two years ago, Sinner winning in two sets.

Huesler Now Swiss Number One

With Roger Federer retired, and Stan Wawrinka struggling to rediscover his old form, Huesler is now the Swiss number one.

That is not just down to circumstances but has been achieved on merit, after winning the doubles at Bastad with partner Dominic Stricker, and then winning his first senior singles title in Sofia, beating the Dane, Holger Rune, in the final.

He had the misfortune to meet the eventual winner in Felix Augur-Aliassime in the first round of his home event in Switzerland last week.

But he has qualified for the Paris Masters for the first time by beating first Hugo Gaston of France in three sets, and then the Serb, Laslo Djere, in two.

Sinner Still Has ATP Finals Ambitions

Sinner still entertains hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin, but needs a very good performance in Paris if he is to make it. He has turned down the chance to play in the NextGen ATP Finals believing that he has reached a stage beyond that.

The 21 year old has one title to his name in 2022 so far – the Croatia Open back in July.

A semi-finalist at the US Open, since then Sinner made the quarter-finals in both Sofia and Vienna which should give him some confidence entering this tournament and should start off as a huge favourite coming into this opening round match.

Huesler v Sinner Prediction and Tip

Although Huesler is a  much improved player, Sinner knows there is no room for error at this stage of the season and will be determined to win.
