Novak Djokovic v Karen Khachanov Head to Head

Over the nine matches played between these two players including one in the Davis Cup, Djokovic has won eight and lost one.

This year itself, there have been three meetings between the two and the Serb has lost just one set.

Incidentally, Khachanov’s only win over Djokovic came here, in the final of the 2018 Paris Masters, the one time that the Russian did win a Masters 1000 title.

Djokovic Needs Time against Cressy

It was a straight-set win in the second round for Djokovic alright but it wasn’t the most straightforward one as the 21-time Grand Slam winner was stretched to an hour and 44 minutes by Maxime Cressy.

Following a first round bye, Djokovic did not face a single break-point in the entire match but also found only one occasion when he was able to go past his opponent’s serve.

That came in the ninth game of the second set when Djokovic converted the second break-point of the set before serving the match out.

Earlier, the two players were involved in a keen opening set tussle that saw Cressy save three break-points in the eighth game to take it into a tie-breaker. Unfortunately for him, he failed to turn up in the tie-breaker and Djokovic cruised to an easy 7-6 (1), 6-4 win.

Can the six-time Paris Masters champion now cruise to another quarterfinal?

Khachanov Stretched by Huesler

Marc-Andrea Huesler is one the newest first-time winner of an ATP tournament after achieving this feat in Sofia early last month and while he followed that up with three successive first round defeats, there was always going to be a bit of a fight coming into this second round match.

Khachanov would have known that, especially after the manner in which Huesler had dispatched Jannik Sinner in the first round. More importantly, he looked like he was prepared for it.

Which is why despite the match going into a third set, Khachanov continued to remain focussed and stuck around enough to get past his opponent in nearly two hours. The Russian won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 following an easy first round win over Sebastian Baez.

The stakes are now a lot higher for the 2018 champion but what’s interesting to note is that by reaching the third round here, Khachanov has already notched up his second-best performance at the Paris Masters.

Against Djokovic, things could get that much more difficult though.

Djokovic v Khachanov Prediction and Tip

Djokovic is a whopping 1/10 odds on favourite here and we expect him to come through in another straight-sets win. Probably a fight in one of the sets.
