Tstisipas Ends Moutet’s Strong Run
Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas marched into the fifth Masters 1000 quarterfinal of the year after he ended qualifier Corentin Moutet’s gutsy run in the tournament on Thursday.
Tsitsipas looked comfortable in the first set as he didn’t allow Moutet a break point, while he converted one of the three he created in the eighth game.
Things got a bit difficult for the Greek in the second set with the home favourite stretching him to the hilt.
Moutet came back from 0-40 to hold the third game and then the two stayed on serve, taking the set to the tiebreak. After both players exchanged two minibreaks each to stay tied at 3-3 in the tiebreak, Tsitsipas stepped on the gas and ran away with four consecutive points to win the contest 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
The world no. 5 had also won his second round match in straight sets, beating Daniel Evans 6-3, 6-4.
With the two wins, the Greek is now 59-21 for the season. The nine-time tour-level champion has reached seven finals this year and he is chasing a third title in 2022. Earlier he won his second Masters 1000 title by defending his Monte-Carlo title and then added a second title of the season in Mallorca.
He was also a finalist in Rotterdam, Rome, Cincinnati, Astana and Stockholm. The last two came in back-to-back tournaments last month.
Having got off to a great start in Paris , he will be keen to keep pushing towards a 25th career final..

Paul’s Amazing Run Continues
After pulling off the biggest win of his career over world no. 2 Rafael Nadal on Wednesday, Tommy Paul kept marching forward in the tournament with a straight sets win over 14th seed Pablo Carreno Busta on Thursday.
As a result of the 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Spaniard, Paul has now moved into his second Masters 1000 quarterfinal. His first wasn’t long ago either, with Paul going down in the last eight in Cincinnati.
This is the 10th time that the world no. 31 will be paying in a quarterfinal this year, but only once has he reached the final four, and that was in Delray Beach. Paul has shown excellent form over the first three matches, beating three Spaniard’s in a row and keeping his chances alive.
First up it was Roberto Bautista Agut, who lost 6-4, 6-4 to the American. Next, Paul produced a huge upset by rallying past the second seed Nadal 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in a two-and-a-half-hour contest, He looked good against Carreno Busta as well as he was broken just once in the match.
With wins over three top 20 payers over the last three rounds, Paul will be high on confidence. Can he take out a second top 10 player in three days?
Tsitsipas v Paul Prediction and Tip
He may not have a great record in finals, but Tsitsipas has made it a habit to reach the title clashes on a regular basis. He is playing well currently and is expected to end Paul’s powerful run in the tournament on Friday.
