Wawrinka v Shapovalov Head to Head
The players have met once on the tour, in the 2018 Japan Open in the round of 16, with Shapovalov coming back to win in three sets.
Wawrinka Looking At Deep Weekend Run
Swiss star Wawrinka has had an injury plagued 2017 and 2018, and his return has been inconsistent with some inspiring victories and agonizing losses. 2019 did not get off to the best of starts for him either, with disappointing early losses at the Australian Open in January, and the ATP 250 at Sofia last week.
Wawrinka looked unimpressive in his opener at Rotterdam against Frenchman Benoit Paire, but looked convincingly strong in his next round against big serving Canadian Milos Raonic, with a straight set win.
The Swiss will need to be at his best against the Canadian teenager as they aim for a spot in the semi finals.
Shapovalov Looking to Repeat Breakout Montreal 2017 Form
Since his breakout run at the ATP 1000 in Montreal in 2017, Denis Shapovalov has always looked convincing but given the impression of falling short of what he is capable of.
Only 19 years of age, he has provided immense promise and the tennis world expect great things of him in the time to come.
Shapovalov did not have a great start to 2019 either, with a third round loss to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, and none too convincing showings elsewhere either. After an indifferent first round showing here, Shapovalov looked at his menacing best against Tomas Berdych in the second round.
With a very strong and accurate second serve, and his single handed backhand hitting the line, the Canadian was able to put the Czech former top ten player under pressure for most of the match.
Shapovalov will be hoping for a repeat of his second round performance to keep the Swiss Wawrinka at bay.
Wawrinka v Shapovalov Predictions & Tips
The quarter final clash at Rotterdam promises to be a clash of single handed backhands, with both players taking big cuts at the ball. Both will need to be at their best to progress over the other. Expect some scintillating shotmaking and a very close match. Stan Wawrinka to avenge the Tokyo loss in three sets with bet365 offering 10/3 for this.
