Tiafoe had come into the 2022 season ranked 38th in the world but with his fans often having this sense of frustration at his underwhelming performances at crucial junctures.
The American seemed to have taken some major steps in remedying that as he broke into the top 20 for the first time last season and ended the year ranked 19th in the world.
A finals appearance on the clay courts of Estoril helped but what stood out for Tiafoe was his showing at the US Open where he reached the semifinal for the first time. It took a fighting performance from Carlos Alcaraz to get past him with the Spaniard, who would later claim the world number one spot, winning it in five sets.
Tiafoe ended the year with a quarterfinal appearance at the Paris Masters and would love to build on what he achieved in 2022.

Machac at Career-Best
He turned professional only three years ago and went on to win a maiden Challenger title in 2020. Since then, Machac has come a long way.
Breaking into the top 200 for the first time that season, Machac has slowly built on it, finishing the 2021 season ranked 143rd in the world and then breaking into the top 100 by the end of 2022.
A lot of Machac’s success has been down to his performances at the Challenger level with the Czech winning a Challenger title last year as well. In the penultimate tournament he featured in Helsinki, Machac made it to the final and that in turn helped him close in on his top 100 spot.
With that now being achieved, Machac would hope to remain there as he looks to make direct qualification to Grand Slam competitions.

Tiafoe should not have a lot of trouble here but Machac does like playing on hard court surfaces. As a result we could see bit of a fight here, and if Tiafoe is a tad rusty, Machac could even scoop a set off him.
