Dan Evans v Jason Kubler Head to Head

At the highest level these two have faced off once and that came at the 2022 Wimbledon where Kubler roundly defeated Evans in the first round. Evans managed to win just eight games in that straight-set defeat.

Kubler Enters as a Kyrgios Replacement

Till less than 24 hours before the start of the United Cup, it was Nick Kyrgios who was slated to start off as the number one Aussie men’s singles player and Alex de Minaur joining him as the second-ranked Australian.

However, a last minute pullout from Kyrgios has meant that de Minaur has taken over the top slot and Jason Kubler will now be filling in the big boots of Kyrgios.

Kubler is coming off a solid 2022 season too. In fact, ranked outside the top 300 in mid-July 2021, Kubler has clawed his way through to the top 100 and ended the previous season at a respectable 107th in the world.

And had the Wimbledon result points been added to his tally, he would have probably ended 2022 in the top 100 as well, having reached the fourth round there as a qualifier.

Can he repeat his showing at Wimbledon – where he had defeated Evans – here again?

Evans Coming off a Solid Battle of Brits Showing

As a way to warm himself up for the start of the new season, Evans featured in the Battle of the Brits competition last week.

He was a straight-set winner over Aidan McHugh in the first match of that tournament before edging past Andy Murray in a three-setter to get his season started on a positive note.

In a lot of ways, 2022 brought modest returns for Evans but he still managed to keep himself in the top 30 of the ATP Rankings.

Other than a semifinal appearance at Montreal, there was no other ATP tournament in which Evans won three matches in a row, falling in the third round at both, the Australian Open and US Open.

A first round loss at his home Grand Slam might not have helped confidence but that semifinal showing at Rogers Cup did help paper over some of the cracks for Evans, who had fallen to 39th in the rankings.

Can he now extract revenge from Kubler for that stunning Wimbledon defeat?

Evans v Kubler Prediction and Tip

Evans is 9/20 to win this and this last minute change might play right in his hands as Kubler looks to get into the right mindset coming into this tournament. Kubler could carve out a set but we expect Evans to still win the encounter.
