Stefanos Tsitsipas v David Goffin Head to Head

On outdoor hardcourt surfaces, the head to head stands at 1-1 while Tsitsipas is 2-0 in indoor hardcourt tournaments.

Tsitsipas Scrapes Past Dimitrov

In what turned out to be a slow start for the Greek number one, Tsitsipas needed a third set tie-breaker to get past Grigor Dimitrov in the first ATP match of his season.

Tsitsipas was on court for two hours and 12 minutes and had to overcome a first set deficit before winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

After levelling the match at one set apiece, Tsitsipas would have hoped for the momentum to have shifted his way but found it difficult to get past Dimitrov’s serve. He did miss out on two break-points to begin with in the very first game of the decider but then had to save three on his own serve to push the encounter into a tie-breaker.

The world number four then raced to a 3-0 lead in the tie-breaker and maintained the upper hand throughout to eke out a narrow win.

He will hope to do a lot better in his second match as Greece look to top the group and qualify for the second round.

Goffin Struggled Post Wimbledon 2022

As recently as in 2021, Goffin was ranked 12th in the world but a drastic fall in form meant his ranking followed suit and he ended the season 53rd on the ATP charts.

In fact things could have been a lot worse had it not been for his title win at Marrakesh which helped him come off a season-low ranking of 74th. It had been his lowest ranking since July 2014, and an indicator things had to change and quickly for the Belgian.

On the other hand, had it not been for the Wimbledon 2022 results not making it to the ranking points tally, Goffin could have broken into the top 30 as well. He had made the quarterfinal at the season’s third Grand Slam before bowing out in five sets to Cameron Norrie.

Post the Wimbledon exploits though, Goffin’s form fell away as he won only three main draw matches spread across 10 tournaments. Up against Tsitsipas, he could be staring at another defeat unless he has managed to rediscover his lost mojo during the season break.

Tsitsipas v Goffin Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas might have taken a while to get into his rhythm against Dimitrov but he will be gunning for a straight-set win here against Goffin. Expect him to achieve that.
