Marie Bouzkova v Jule Niemeier Head to Head

Bouzkova Falls to Straight-Set Loss

Madison Keys is an in-form player but coming into her match against Bouzkova she wasn’t quite the favourite. In fact bookmakers had trouble deciding which way to swing and had both players at 10/11 to clinch their United Cup opener.

Bouzkova, however, failed to trouble Keys too much, as she fell to a straight-set loss in a match lasting an hour and 22 minutes.

It was the Czech player who drew first blood as she broke Keys in the third game of the opening set but was broken right back. Another break of serve as Bouzkova served to stay in the set gave Keys the lead.

The second set went exactly in the same manner with breaks of serves in the third and fourth game, and a late second break for Keys helping her clinch the encounter.

Bouzkova will look to improve on her first serve win percentage which was a rather low 58% as she prepares to take on Niemeier in her second match.

Niemeier Showing Signs of Improvement

Not so long ago, in the first quarter of the 2021 season, Niemeier was 278th in the world and struggling to find her feet. A year and a half on, the German hit a career-best ranking of 61st on the WTA charts and then ended the season ranked 65th.

That stark improvement came on the shoulders of fine performances at both, the ITF level and on the WTA circuit.

In 2022, Niemeier first won a title at the ITF circuit and then clinched a WTA 125 tournament in Makarska. A quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon would have counted for a lot more had ranking points been given in that competition but she made up for that with a fourth round entry at the US Open as well.

Niemeier ended the season on a high of having made the quarterfinal at Cluj-Napoca and would love to resume the new one with another solid showing.

Bouzkova v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

Niemeier would be no pushover having already taken the scalp of the world number three Anett Kontaveit last year. Expecting a three-set tussle here that could go either way.
