Rafael Nadal v Cameron Norrie Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Nadal has won every single time. This includes an Acapulco Open victory for Nadal in 2022.

What makes it worse for Norrie is he hasn’t won a set against Nadal so far.

Nadal Hoping to Put ATP Finals Behind Him

In what was otherwise a solid season for Nadal, he finished on a rather stunningly low note at the ATP Finals. The world number two was knocked out of the competition even before he had played his final round-robin match, having lost to Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger-Aliassime in his first two encounters.

And while Nadal did achieve some respectability in the tournament with a straight-set win over Casper Ruud, it might not have done too much to raise concerns about his future.

The reason for that isn’t his form – far from it after having won two majors in the season. More of it is do with Nadal’s fitness with question-marks around his foot and abdominal muscle through the previous year.

Coming into this tournament Nadal did share the good news that he is fitter now and was aiming to play at the highest competitive level but with no tennis under his belt in nearly a month and a half, it does look like things could get a tad rough.

Norrie Eases Past de Minaur

Norrie was to take on Nick Kyrgios in the first match of the tournament on Thursday but the latter’s last-minute withdrawal because of injury meant his opponent was changed to Alex de Minaur.

And he took full toll of that, crushing his Aussie opponent 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 32 minutes to notch up the points on board for his country.

The Brit was rather strong on his serve, winning 86% of his first serve points and while he faced four break-points, Norrie was able to save all of them. In turn he had nine opportunities to break de Minaur’s serve and did that three times.

Playing Nadal, however, would be a different kettle of fish. Especially because of the psychological hold he has over Norrie, having never dropped a set to the British number one.

Can Norrie put up a better showing this time around?

Nadal v Norrie Prediction and Tip

Nadal could be a tad rusty, Nadal might be coming into this one with fitness woes under his belt but he should still be strong enough to clinch this. We think he might do that in straight sets too.
