Michalski Hasn’t Found Any Hardcourt Success

He is just 22 and has been on the tour for five years now but Michalski hasn’t done too much of note on hardcourt surfaces.

In fact, the Polish player featured in 80 matches across different levels of tournaments in 2022 and all of them came on clay – a sharp indicator of his surface preference.

Across his five-year career, Michalski has played in only 41 hardcourt matches – none of them at the ATP level – and won 23 of them. Unfortunately for him, while his record on hard courts isn’t such a bad one, it’s not come against any kind of quality competition.

What could make it slightly easier for him is his opponent has had a similar issue in his career.

Skatov Goes Down Fighting to Huesler

Ranked 142nd in the world, Skatov was a heavy second-favourite going into his opening United Cup encounter against Marc-Andrea Huesler but at one point it looked like we had a surprise result in the offing.

In the end though, Huesler overturned a one set deficit to complete a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Skatov in a match that lasted two hours and 22 minutes.

Skatov had seven break-point opportunities in the match including five in the decider but missed all but one of them. On the contrary he was broken three times after he also gave seven chances to his opponent.

The Kazakh will like to take the positives from that defeat too, the fact that he pushed a player who was 1/4 to win it, into a third set being one of them.

Unfortunately for Skatov, he doesn’t hold much of a record on hardcourt surfaces and that could even things out a little coming into his second match.

Michalski v Skatov Prediction and Tip

This is a tough one to call despite the big difference in their rankings because of their respective issues on this surface. We will have to go with a three-setter, but for Skatov to hold a slight edge there.
