Iga Swiatek v Yulia Putintseva
Iga Swiatek begins her 2023 campaign officially with a match against Yulia Putintseva at the United Cup. Swiatek is heavily favoured in this match due to already playing some tennis while Putintiseva only has one match.
It was a solid effort from her but Belinda Bencic had no issues in beating her.
It’s hard to imagine why Swiatek would have any issue doing the same, particularly after showing a pretty decent level in a couple of exhibition matches last week. She is still the best player in the world and not slowing down so it’s hard to see what Putintseva could really do.
I think this will be a pretty convincing win for the Polish player as she moves far better around the court than her opponent and has more raw power to end points. She should certainly win in straight sets and we suggest trying the games handicap if you believe she can do it. We certainly do.
Tip: Games Handicap Swiatek -5.5: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Stefanos Tsitsipas v David Goffin
Stefanos Tsitsipas opened his year with a pretty decent win over Grigor Dimitrov. It was a comeback win as he lost the opening set but rallied to win the next two. The final one was a thrilling tiebreak where the Greek remained calm and hit some forehand beauties.
He should be the player to watch out for in this matchup because he’s played a couple of matches already. It matters because Goffin hasn’t and tennis is a sport where a player in a competitive rhythm is far better equipped to win a match than one who has not.
Tsitsipas has the upper hand in skill as well as he’s well-equipped to handle Goffin. Yes, the Belgian could certainly surprise, especially if plays as aggressively as he can but I don’t see him doing that. I expect an even better Tsitsipas to get this done in two sets.
Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Rafael Nadal v Cameron Norrie
The best match of the day is the one between Nadal and Norrie. The Brit has been lighting up the tennis world in exhibition events beating some very good players so far. He looks to add to that list in this one as he takes on Nadal who hasn’t played much lately.
He played plenty of matches in South America against Ruud and did really well in them so there will be some form there but Norrie could certainly challenge him. He’s yet to beat Nadal and being 0-4 against him is certainly a motivating factor.
As much as I’d like to think Norrie could do it I simply have to back Nadal here because he’s played some really good tennis in Australia last year. He is being aggressive and that’s one way to really hurt Norrie who doesn’t have the same weapons to deal with that.
Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
