Petra Kvitova v Laura Siegemund Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Kvitova has won both of them. The first came at the 2015 US Open before she made it 2-0 in 2020 at French Open.

Both were straight-set wins.

In a match that lasted a shade over two hours, Kvitova managed to kick-start her 2023 campaign with a victory. More importantly it came against a player ranked three in the world, giving Kvitova full points.

Kvitova battled to a straight-set win over Jessica Pegula, registering a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory to help Czech Republic pull one back after having fallen 2-0 down on day one of the competition.

Unfortunately for Kvitova and Czech Republic, another loss followed soon after which means Kvitova will need to repeat this showing all over again against Germany. And obviously hope for a few other results from her own team and from other sides in the group to go her way.

The world number 16 was 16-11 in hardcourt competitions last year and will now hope she can make it 2-0 early this year.

Siegemund Aims to Climb Back Up the Rankings

Only last year (2021) Siegemund was ranked 49th in the world. Her career-best ranking has been 27th. Today, however, she starts off her 2023 season as a 177th-ranked player, having struggled to find results come her way.

Siegemund had a rough previous season, with her low ranking making it difficult for her to qualify for many a top tournaments.

As a result of which, the German won only three main draw matches on the WTA circuit and while she did lift a couple of titles on the ITF circuit, it wasn’t enough for her to claw her way back into the top 100.

What this means is that she will start off here as a second-favourite but more vitally unless she starts winning and garnering points, Siegemund will also have to go through the qualifiers to feature at Grand Slam events.

A morale-boosting performance is what she would be hoping for here.

Kvitova v Siegemund Prediction and Tip

After the kind of performance Kvitova put up against Pegula, she should have no issues getting past Siegemund. A straight-set win looks very likely.
