Hubert Hurkacz v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

Hurkacz has a 3-1 lead over the Kazakh. The Pole lost their first meeting in Dubai in 2020 but has won the next three in a row, with the last two wins coming in 2022.

All of their matches have been decided in straight sets.

Hurkacz, the Top ATP Player in Polish Squad

Hubert Hurkacz produced a 41-21 season last year. That was the most number of wins he scored in a single season at the top level. But he will be a touch disappointed to have won just one title in 2022, having won three the year before.

The 25-year-old defeated Daniil Medvedev in the Halle Open final to clinch the fifth ATP title of his career, but couldn’t triumph in another tournament in 2022. He did come very close to winning a sixth when he reached the second Masters 1000 final of his career at the Canadian Open. However, it was Pablo Carreno Busta who edged out the Pole to clinch the title in Toronto.

Hurkacz had previously won his only Masters 1000 final in Miami in 2021.

Ranked no. 10th in the world, Hurkacz delivered on all surfaces last year. But he has a liking for faster courts and that is pretty evident from his record on hard and grass courts. He was a semifinalist in Wimbledon in 2022 and has won three of his five titles on outdoor hard courts.

Playing his first match of the season, Hurkacz will be eager to start on a solid note and set the tone for the season.

Bublik Loses Opener

Alexander Bublik had a disappointing start to the tournament as he lost his opening match to Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka.

The world no. 37 went down to the three-time Grand Slam champion in straight sets as Kazakhstan fell 0-3 behind to Switzerland following their match.

The match between two big-serving players saw Wawrinka out-ace Bubik 10-7. He didn’t allow the Kazakh a single break point, while he created four breaking opportunities, capitalising on one of them.

Neither player could break in the second set, but the Swiss dominated the tiebreak to win the contest 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in an hour and 30 minutes.

Ranked 37th in the world, Bublik will be hoping to return to winning ways in the next round as Kazakhstan tries to keeps its chances alive in the tournament.

The 25-year-old is coming off a 33-27 season last year, which included his maiden ATP title in Montpellier. He also reached the final in Newport and Metz, only to finish runner-up in both the events. It will be interesting to see if he can inspire the Kazakh team in the remainder of the tournament.

Hurkacz v Bublik Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz is the favourite in this contest. He has had more success at the top level and has dominated the rivalry in recent times. Last year, the Pole beat the Kazakh in Dubai and Astana in straight sets.
