Rafael Nadal v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

Nadal has won all three of their previous matches. While he won the first two at the 2018 Wimbledon and the 2019 U.S. Open in straight sets, he dropped a set in their last meeting at the ATP Cup in 2020.

Nadal’s Perfect Record Against Norrie Ends

Rafael Nadal suffered a shock defeat to Cameron Norrie in the first match of the United Cup on Saturday.

It wasn’t an ideal start to the season for the World no. 2, who will be defending the Australian Open title in a couple of weeks time.

With Spain playing for the first time in the mixed team event on day 3, Nadal started well, as he got the sole break of the first set, to take a one set to love lead. Norrie, however, rebounded in the second set and got the solitary break of the set to tie the match at one-set all. In the past Nadal and Norrie had played four times, but the Briton had never won a set against the Spaniard.

On Saturday, he not only won one, but also added another, winning the third set and handing the Spaniard a shock 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 defeat.

The two hour and 45 minute match saw Nadal save nine of 11 break points but he converted just 1 of 6.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion had a stunning 40-9 season in 2022 despite being suffering from a rib injury at the Indian Wells final and having to withdraw from Wimbledon semifinal due to an abdominal injury.

Nadal had won 20 matches in a row last year, before suffering his first defeat. This season, though, he has lost his very first match. Can he recover from the setback in his next singles encounter against Australia?

De Minaur Outplayed by Norrie

One thing common between Rafael Nadal and Alex de Minaur at the United Cup is the fact that they both have lost to Cameron Norrie.

The Briton had beaten De Minaur on day 1 of their singles as Great Britain beat Australia 3-2 in their opening tie.

But Norrie’s win over de Minaur was far more easier than the one against Nadal. Norrie needed just an hour and 34 minutes to beat De Minaur 6-3, 6-3.

The Aussie, ranked no. 24th in the world, could not break the world no. 14 even once in the match, missing out on four break points. In contrast, the Briton had nine breaking chances in the match and he took three of them to ease to a win.

The 23-year-old De Minaur is coming off a 47-25 season, which saw him pick his sixth career title by triumphing in Atlanta for the second time in his career.

In addition to the title, he also reached four semifinals, as he blossomed on all surfaces. Can he put the early setback behind him and stun Nadal for the first tuime?

Nadal v De Minaur Prediction and Tip

Nadal has a perfect record against De Minaur. He also put up a tough fight against Norrie and will be the favourite to win this contest.
