Bianca Andreescu has recently struggled with injuries, so her first goal in the new year will be to try and remain injury-free throughout the year.
Andreescu missed the first three months of action last year due to an injury and began the season on clay in Stuttgart. She was a bit slow off the blocks but slowly she picked pace, reaching the quarterfinals on her Rome debut. It was her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal since she finished runner-up in Miami in 2021.
The 2019 U.S. Open, Indian Wells and the Canadian Open champion then reached her first grass court final in Bad Homburg, but couldn’t add to her three career titles as she went down to Caroline Garcia in the final.
But the Canadian didn’t finish the season well, struggling to go deep in the tournaments at the back end of the season. She won two consecutive matches in just three tournaments after the Bad Homburg final and didn’t reach the last eight a single time.
She will be desperate to turn things around on hard courts this year and would be hoping to make an impact in Adelaide.
A former no. 4, Andreescu is ranked no. 46th in the world currently and will be aiming to return to the top 10 this year.

Will 2023 Turn Muguruza’s Fortunes?
2022 was a forgettable season for Garbine Muguruza, who struggled big time, finishing with a 12-17 record.
The two-time Grand Slam champion will be desperately hoping for a change of luck in 2023. Muguruza’s poor form throughout 2022 also resulted in a steep drop in her ranking.
The former World no. 1 had broken back into the top 10 in 2021 and ended that season at no. 3, following three titles from five finals, which included the WTA Finals title.
But she could not carry that form to 2022. She struggled to win matches on a consistent basis, in fact in the entire year it was just twice when she registered consecutive wins.
As a result of her continued struggles, Muguruza has slumped to no. 55 in the world. Can she arrest the slide in Adelaide and begin the new year in emphatic style?
