Aliaksandra Sasnovich v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head
Sasnovich won their only meeting in Marseille in 2015.

Sasnovich Plays Well in Australia
Aliaksandra Sasnovich has featured in four WTA finals in her career so far but she is yet to win a title. Interestingly, two of those four finals were played in Australia. That stat clearly indicates that she likes playing on the hard courts down under.
Ranked no. 30 in the world, Sasnovich lost to Elina Svitolina in the Brisbane Open final in 2018 and in 2022, she went down to Amanda Anisiomva in the final of the Melbourne Summer Set tournament.
Her aim will be to start well once again this season. Sasnovich went 36-21 across levels last year. Apart from the Melbourne final, she also featured in the final of the Cleveland Open, but was beaten in straight sets by Liudmilla Samsonova.
That run to the final in Cleveland in August was also her last impressive result of the season as the Belarusian failed to win consecutive matches in the back end of the season.
She finished with an overall record of 35-21 in 2022 and had also climbed to her career high ranking of 29. Can Sasnovich once again put up an impressive show in the season-opener Australia?

Resurgent Kanepi Was Impressive Last Year
Facing Sasnovich is Kaia Kanepi, who was one of the most significant movers in the rankings last year. She was ranked outside the top 100 before the Australian Open last year. But a stunning run to the quarterfinals of the first major pushed her back into the top 100.
It was her seventh quarterfinal appearance at a major but like the previous six times, she failed to make the final four.
A few months later, Kanepi pulled off another inspiring performance as the 37-year-old reached the final of the Washington Open. It was her first final since the Gippsland Open final in 2021 and a chance to end a 9-year title drought. But the Estonian went down to Samsonova in the final and couldn’t win a fifth career title.
Kanepi also reached the semifinals of the Talinn Open at home but lost the match to compatriot Annet Kontaveit.
All these performances helped her make significant gains in the rankings.
Can she produce a similar or an even better season this year? A good start in Adelaide could set the tone for the entire season.
Sasnovich v Kanepi Prediction and Tip
This is going to be an interesting matchup. Sasnovich is ranked higher and tends to do well in Australia. Kanepi showed exactly what she is capable of doing down under. So it will be an evenly matched contest. However Kanepi could use all her experience to edge out the Belarusian.
