Djokovic Finally Makes it Back to An Australian Tournament

It was an ordeal for Djokovic last season after he landed in Australia but failed to play a competitive match. The 21-time Grand Slam winner was then sent back home after his decision to not take a Covid-19 vaccination was used as a reason.

He would later go on to miss the entire US Open Series as a result of his anti-vaccination stance as well but despite that, Djokovic managed to notch up a 43-6 win-loss record in 2022.

And in spite of all the tournaments that Djokovic missed out on, he won five titles, including the big prize at Wimbledon and the year-ending ATP Finals. There were two other final appearances.

Djokovic will now hope he can build up nicely into the Australian Open where he hunts for his 10th title and 22nd Grand Slam win overall.

Late Bloomer Lestienne Hoping to Continue Good Work

Lestienne has broken into the top 150 of the rankings in the past having entered the 2022 season with a career-best ranking of 142nd but a 2021 season-ending ranking of 202nd in the world.

Aged 29, it looked highly unlikely he would manage something as dramatic as he did in 2022.

It was the first season in Lestienne’s career that he managed to win three Challenger titles. In fact, before 2022, the Frenchman had won a career total of three, and he doubled his tally last season.

What that meant was Lestienne was able to feature in ATP events like he did in San Diego – where he reached the quarterfinal – and Tel Aviv where he was a semifinalist.

For all his success, can he test Djokovic in this opener though?

Djokovic v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

Bookmakers have pegged Djokovic at around 1/40 to win this which is what you can expect from a player in the peak of his career and health. The best we can expect is the games market, which has something to watch out.
