Matteo Berrettini v Casper Ruud Head to Head
Ruud leads Berrettini 4-2 in their head-to-head, but they have split their two meetings on the hard courts. The Norwegian defeated the Italian in the quarterfinals of the 2022 US Open in straight sets, while Berrettini won their encounter at Flushing Meadows in 2020 also in straights.

Matteo Berrettini will be a key member of the Italy team at the United Cup if they are to go all the way. They won their opening tie over Brazil 3-2, with Berrettini garnering an important singles win over Thiago Monteiro on Friday in Brisbane.
With the two countries tied at 1-1, Berrettini stepped up to the plate to nullify Brazil’s top-ranked male player in Monteiro. The last time the pair clashed in Rio, they played for almost three hours. While this time it was also a marathon, with Berrettini requiring almost two hours to defy Monteiro’s chances.
The World No. 16 was at his top-level form despite this being his first competitive match in precisely two months. And his general level was decent. Berrettini did not face a single break point as he hammered an impressive 15 aces and needed to save a couple of set points in the second set tiebreak, before prevailing 6-4 7-6.
Italy could seal its place in the semifinals if they edge out Norway in the second tie.

Ruud Wins the Battle but not the Tie
Casper Ruud knows all too well in team events he cannot singlehandedly bail out his country. The World No. 3 is Norway’s most prominent tennis player right now, and with his country trailing 0-2 against Brazil in the opening tie he had to win the third singles rubber.
Ruud proved too strong for Monteiro, winning 6-3 6-2, in just 72 minutes. He won five of six break points and extends his winning head-to-head record over the Brazilian to 3-0.
A succession of unforced errors in the early proceedings proved to be Monteiro’s undoing as Ruud grabbed control of the match to win the first set. Monteiro responded by going up a break in the second set, but Ruud came roaring back to win six games from 0-2 down.
Berrettini v Ruud Prediction and Tip
Berrettini and Ruud played quality matches to start off their respective campaigns. Berrettini in particular was dominant behind his serve, not facing a single break point and firing double-digit aces. Ruud will certainly ask plenty of questions behind the return particularly if he can stretch the sets into tiebreaks where Berrettini’s serve will be under real pressure.
