Miomir Kecmanovic v Christopher O’Connell Head to Head

Kecmanovic and O’Connell have never faced off before this.

Kecmanovic Ups the Ante in 2022

He was ranked 78th in the world in the second week of January last season but Kecmanovic’s fine performances across the year ensured he had not only broken into the top 30 but also finished there.

The Serb took off with his fourth round appearance at Australian Open and carved out back to back quarterfinal showings at the Sunshine Masters – his best performances at Masters 1000 tournaments.

While he did not quite match up to that kind of a performance again throughout the year, Kecmanovic’s consistency was underlined by his semifinal appearance at Los Cabos and Napoli and third round entries at French Open and Wimbledon.

He was routed by Felix Auger-Aliassime at Basel and fell in straight sets to Cameron Norrie in his last two matches of the season but will kick-start the new year with a hope to continue with the kind of form he had shown all of last year.

O’Connell Coming off His Own Best Ranking

Never in his career before the 2022 season had O’Connell broken into the top 100 rankings on the ATP charts. He did so in 2022, having begun the year ranked 175th.

And he did so on the back of some fine performances across all surfaces.

Sure, O’Connell had to feature in a plethora of Challenger level tournaments, but he also won a couple of titles there, made one other final and two semifinals before showing what he is capable of at the San Diego Open.

In that competition he overcame Jason Kubler, JJ Wolf and Jenson Brooksby – all match favourites – to make it to the semifinals.

Now, playing at home, O’Connell will hope he can put up a strong showing against his much more fancied Serbian opponent.

Kecmanovic v O’Connell Prediction and Tip

Kecmanovic is a favourite for strong reasons and we will have to back him to win this. However, a three-setter isn’t out of question and we expect O’Connell to put up that strong fight.
