Irina-Camelia Begu v Shelby Rogers Head to Head
Rogers leads by 2-0, last beating Begu in the 2021 Indian Wells Open in straight sets.

Begu Coming off an Impressive Season
Irina-Camelia Begu capped the 2022 season with a record of 32-17 and a singles ranking of World No. 34.
The 32-year-old won her first singles title since July 2017 – as she lifted the Palermo Open trophy after beating Lucia Bronzetti in the final. In addition, she won the Romania Open Ladies 125k event.
Begu’s other highlights include reaching the fourth round in the French Open and the third round in Miami. She ended the season early after reaching the quarterfinal in Parma in September.
It is worth noting that her record on hard courts is poor, having secured just 10 wins on the surface last year – two of which came between March and September. With that kind of footing on the turf, she faces a big challenge against Rogers.

Rogers Clears the Qualifiers
Shelby Rogers has done well to move past the qualifiers in Adelaide International 1, beating the likes of Yue Yuan and Kimberly Birrell. The 30-year-old American is ranked #47 – after reaching a career-high at the 30th spot in August.
Now, Rogers hopes to go further, and for what it is worth, she has some history on her side.
To begin with, she has a superior track record on hard courts than her Romanian adversary. Moreover, she has reached the quarterfinal in Adelaide twice in the last two years, beating the likes of Johanna Konta, Veronika Kudermetova, and Maria Sakkari.
Her last season, however, was largely erratic. She lost in the opening rounds in most tournaments but reached the final in San Jose and the semis in Den Bosch.
Begu v Rogers Prediction and Tip
Backing Rogers seems to be the way to go here. She has a superior head-to-head tally and a stronger affinity for hard-court play than the Romanian. Expect no surprises here.
