Martincova Looking to Recapture the Form of 2021
Martincova was brilliant in 2021, but found the going tough in 2022. She did score a few wins and even peaked to a career-high of 40 in February, but she wasn’t consistent enough and struggled to win consecutive matches on a regular basis.
Currently ranked no. 71st in the world, Tereza Martincova will be hoping to recapture the form of 2021 that saw her reach her maiden WTA final in Prague. She also reached plenty of Round of 16s and quarterfinals on the tour.
But in 2022, the Czech player reached just one semifinal in Nottingham and two quarterfinals in St. Petersburg and Ostrava. Overall she finished with a losing record of 22-28 and was 13-14 on hard courts.
She will be eager to put on a better show in 2022 and would love to start off well in the season-opener in Auckland.

Can Grabher Deliver on Hard Court?
Facing Martincova will be Julia Grabher, who is known to be a clay court player. The world no. 82 has not played much on surfaces other than clay.
Grabher, who made her top 100 debut last year, is coming off a 56-32 season from all levels. She delivered her best result at the Bari Open, not only reaching her first WTA 125 final, but also claiming her first title by beating Nuria Brancaccio in the final.
In addition, the 26-year-old Austrian also won three ITF titles last year.
She reached three ITF finals and won all three of them. One of those was on hard court in Porto, while the other two were on her favourite surface the clay.
In all, Grabher has 11 ITF titles from 24 finals and has a 10-12 record on clay court finals.
