Felix Auger-Aliassime v Alexei Popyrin Head to Head

World No. 6 Auger-Aliassime is yet to play Alexei Popyrin at any level before this week.

Canadian Enjoyed the Perfect Season

It is hard to dispute that Felix Auger-Aliassime was the ATP’s most consistent performer in 2022. Bar Novak Djokovic, nobody came close to matching Auger-Aliassime’s consistency last season. He won 64 matches – a career-best, and also punctured the finals hurdle when he won the Rotterdam Open in February.

The floodgates began to open for the 22-year-old who went on a tear last October. Auger-Aliassime won three titles in a row and secured his place at the ATP Finals in Turin.

The Canadian powerhouse was also in brilliant form in team events. At the ATP Cup he steered Canada to victory. He also scored a crucial win over Novak Djokovic in the Laver Cup in London, as Team World won their maiden title at the event.

Auger-Aliassime then put a capstone to his season by playing a key role in Canada’s first Davis Cup title last November, winning all three of his singles matches.

Popyrin Aims to be Back Amongst the best

Alexei Popyrin looked on course to be the next big thing in Australian tennis. When he won his first ATP title in Singapore in 2021, the limelight couldn’t have shone any brighter.

Popyrin was already part of some dramatic match wins at the Australian Open, and he had the first-strike tennis in his bag to excel on any fast surface.

But he was generally inconsistent last season and ended up dropping outside the world’s Top 100.

He has scratched and clawed on the ATP Challenger Tour in an effort to return to top-tier levels without any reasonable success. Maybe in 2023, his hard work will pay off.

Auger-Aliassmie v Popyrin Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime is not only a favorite to scale this tricky opener, but looks a good bet at 6/1 to win it all this week in Adelaide. The Canadian should power past the qualifier.
