Andrey Rublev v Roberto Bautista Agut Head to Head

There have been six previous meetings between these two players at the highest level other than one at Davis Cup and one in the 2018 Abu Dhabi exhibition. It’s 4-4 on head to head with Rublev having won their last two matches.

On outdoor hardcourt surfaces though, Baustista Agut leads his opponent 3-0.

Rublev Continues to Remain Within Touching Distance of a Top Four Spot

His career-best ranking is number five in the world and while Rublev didn’t do enough to end the 2022 season at his personal best, he came from having slipped down to 11th to get back to number eight.

What Rublev will hope for this season is to come up with a lot better showing at the Grand Slams where he had managed successive quarterfinals at French Open and US Open. And then there were four titles in 2022 including an ATP Dubai tournament victory.

At Indian Wells Open, made it all the way to the semifinals, only to fall to Taylor Fritz but all of this was enough for Rublev to make the ATP Finals.

There, he entered the semifinals despite a round-robin defeat to Novak Djokovic, before ending the season with a straight-set loss to Casper Ruud.

The question now is if he can maintain that consistency while upping the ante as far as his top level performances are concerned.

Bautista Agut Coming off a Solid 2022 as Well

While he was not at his best in 2022, Bautista Agut looked to have done enough to earn himself a 21st rank in the world.

This was on the shoulder of a couple of title wins including one in Doha on hardcourt surfaces. A semifinal at Basel towards the backend of the season and a final at Mallorca during the grass swing looked to have been indicators of the pedigree from his past where Bautista Agut had made it to the top 10 of the rankings at one point.

The question, however, is his form against a player like Rublev, a top-10 quality opponent and the quick answer to that is it’s been encouraging.

Because in 2022 itself, Bautista Agut defeated Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz and Daniil Medvedev, all of whom were top-10 players at that moment. In fact, Medvedev was number one on the rankings when they had met in Mallorca.

Sounds like a delicious contest in the offing here.

Rublev v Bautista Agut Prediction and Tip

Rublev is a favourite at 1/2 but those odds also represent there is a bit of circumspection given Bautista Agut’s form. Expect a three-setter here that Rublev edges his opponent out in.
